Let's think beyond ourselves

Writer: Annick LAnnick L

No man on this earth can remain alone, it is impossible. Therefore we cannot do without external help or support.

This is why we must in return help others. Indeed, God expects two very important things from us (Matthew 22V37-39).

First, "You shall love God" and second, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself." But most of the time we stop at the first part because God is Spirit and he is good which makes loving him easy.

The challenge now is to love your neighbor. The question now

it is: Who is my neighbor?

My neighbor is my neighbor, my friend, my colleague, it is all the people around us, in our neighborhood, on this earth. The word of God tells us in Philippians 2V3-4 Do not force your way to the front, do not speak kindly to each other to get to the top.

Step aside and help others move forward. Don't be obsessed with your own advantage. Forget yourself for enough time to lend a helping hand.

God clearly exhorts us in His Word to love and minister to others. As sons of God we are champions and champions do not fight for themselves; they fight for others. When we pray it should not always be about our business, our family or things that concern us; it should be for a greater cause.

Think beyond yourself. There are many who are suffering greatly.

for whom we must pray and support emotionally as well as financially. May the plight of the poor, the sick and the oppressed stir in you the compassion to intercede for them and work for a change in their lives today. Let us be compassionate as Christ is toward us.

It is true that there are seasons in our lives when we need to focus on our future. However, let's just try to find a little time, energy and even funds to help our neighbor because in reality it is also part of our duty as human beings and sons of God.
