I am like the prodigal son

I am like the prodigal son. Text inspired by the parable of the prodigal son in the Bible (Luke 15:11-32)

There was a time when I believed I could live far from my Father. I wanted my freedom, my inheritance, my path. I didn't understand that everything I needed…was already in His house.

So I took what he gave me, and I left, my heart full of illusions. I tasted the world, its pleasures, its mirages. But all I found was emptiness, shame, hunger. I lost everything.

I was alone, broken, wandering here and there, I who had been a son, it was there, in that place of abandonment, that I thought again of my Father.

I said to myself, “How many of my Father’s servants have more than enough bread, and here I am dying of hunger. I will return to Him and say to Him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and against You. I am no longer worthy to be called Your son. Treat me as one of Your servants.’”

But no sooner had I taken a few steps towards Him than He ran to me. He embraced me. He did not reject me. He did not humiliate me. He restored me. He ordered that I be brought a new garment, that my dignity be restored, that my return be celebrated.

I, who was dead, have come back to life. I, who was lost, have been found.

Yes, I am like the prodigal son. And if I am alive today, it is because my Father never forgot me.
